Stoke City have appointed Warren Joyce as the professional development phase coach for their academy. The 61-year-old brings extensive experience from Manchester United and Nottingham Forest to bolster the club's long-term player development pathway.

Joyce was already on the sidelines for the academy's Premier League International Cup defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday night. His arrival comes as the first team sits 13th in the Championship with 10 points from seven games, following a recent 2-1 win at Watford. The senior side's fixtures include a home match against Sheffield United this weekend.

He spent eight years as part of Manchester United's coaching structure before a further five-year spell at Nottingham Forest, which included reaching the 2022 FA Youth Cup final. Joyce also has first-team managerial experience with clubs including Wigan Athletic, Royal Antwerp and Melbourne City. His role will focus on guiding the progression of young players through the academy ranks and into the professional environment. The club's current squad includes several players who have come through the youth system, and Joyce's task is to increase that pipeline. His appointment is effective immediately.
