Mark Robins says integrating 10 new signings into his Stoke City squad has been a straightforward process, crediting the players and staff for a positive shift in atmosphere. The manager's comments come with his side sitting 12th in the Championship on 10 points ahead of a home game against Sheffield United this week.

Robins, who took charge on New Year's Day 2025, described the task of settling in the new arrivals as "a doddle". He pointed to the recent 2-1 win at Watford and a 1-1 draw at Cardiff as evidence of the group's growing resilience. "The proof of the pudding is in the eating," Robins said. "You always look at performances."

Communication key to improvement

The manager highlighted better communication as a fundamental change since his arrival. He had previously spoken about challenges in getting players to engage more fully off the pitch. "Communication is better," Robins explained. "When the communication is better it feels better, it feels like a two-way street rather than just talking at somebody." This improved dialogue, he believes, has been central to the team's ability to absorb a significant influx of talent, including young players like 20-year-old Luca Bombino and 23-year-olds Jack McGlynn and Djibril Soumare.

Behind the scenes, player liaison officer Matt Hockin has played a vital role in helping newcomers adjust, especially those moving from abroad or Scotland. Robins was keen to credit Hockin for his often unseen work, which has smoothed the transition for players still settling into life away from the club's Clayton Wood training ground.

Building on recent form

The results reflect this improved environment. Stoke's recent form reads three wins, one draw and one loss from their last five outings. That sequence includes the comeback victory at Watford, where goals from Jack McGlynn and Eric Junior Bocat secured three points, and a hard-earned draw in Wales. Robins suggested the point at Cardiff City could prove significant as the season develops.

With the squad now more settled, attention turns to maintaining momentum. The next test is a home fixture against Sheffield United, who are currently 15th in the table. Stoke City's next Championship match is at home to Sheffield United on Saturday, 19 September.
