Sam Gallagher is in line to return for Stoke City's Championship fixture against Sheffield United this weekend. Manager Mark Robins confirmed the 31-year-old midfielder is set to resume training after missing the last two matches.

Gallagher limped off during the 4-0 victory over Charlton Athletic earlier this month. His potential availability is a boost for a side sitting 12th in the table with 10 points from seven games. Robins said "Gally will train again today" and indicated the player could be in contention for the visit of the 15th-placed Blades.

The manager stressed that returning players must fight for their place. "They’ve got to earn it," Robins said. "I need and want and demand everybody on the same page, everybody working to the same level, everybody working towards the same goal."

Stoke's recent form has been solid, with three wins, a draw and one loss from their last five outings, a sequence that includes a 2-1 win at Watford last time out. The club's current injury list includes Aaron Cresswell, Ato Ampah and Eric Bocat, among others.

Gallagher's return would add midfield options ahead of a key home game.
