Stoke City to Shake Up Squad for Hull Clash
Stoke City manager Mark Robins is expected to make significant changes to his starting XI for the Carabao Cup tie against Hull, with several players returning from injury and others pushing for a spot in the lineup.
Robins has confirmed that he will have to make changes to his squad due to the number of players who are still under the weather and the upcoming games against Hull and Wolves.
Why It Matters for Stoke City
The changes will give opportunities to players who have not started at least one of the opening three matches, including Josh Griffiths, who could make his debut in goal, and Maksym Talovierov, Ben Pearson, Tomas Rigo, Robert Bozenik, and Million Manhoef, who should come back into contention.
The team will be looking to bounce back from their recent form, which has seen them lose their last five games, and get back on track in the Championship.
Stoke City have revamped their midfield department over the last few weeks, bringing in Ethan Galbraith, Ingelsson, and Djibril Soumare while letting Lewis Baker, Steven Nzonzi, and Tatsuki Seko leave. It would be no surprise if Pearson, down the pecking order and in the last year of his contract, followed in the next week.
Robins was encouraged with what he saw from Soumare in his first start on Saturday, but admitted that they still need to get that understanding between them which they haven't necessarily quite mastered yet.
The team will be looking to get back on track in the Championship, where they currently sit 17th with 55 points from 46 games, and are 40 points behind leaders Coventry. They have scored 51 goals and conceded 56, and have lost their last five games.
Robins said: “I’m going to have to (make changes). We’ve got some players who are still under the weather a bit, going into a game at Molineux as well. Hull and Wolves – tough week.”
